Harriet The Spy

I know I'm not the only kid who grew up fashioning myself after Harriet; she was opinionated and observant and unafraid. As a character, she was flawed and fallible, a radical thing for a children's book protagonist in the 60s. As the iconic children's book author Judy Blume said: "Louise Fitzhugh remembered what it was like to grow up and wasn't afraid to write about it." I love this anniversary edition with Harriet walking confidently down the street in a sweatshirt in jeans, her notebook tucked under her arm, a writer in the making. Better yet, the cover is a fascimile of the original: black and white with two awesome pops of color.
