Thank You, Omu!

As Omu's thick red stew simmers on the stove, a host of characters knock on her door, drawn by the delicious smell. As she offers a bowl of stew to each visitor — a child, a police officer, a hot dog vendor, and many more — her evening meal dwindles until the pot is completly empty. When everyone she has fed shows up at her door, and she has nothing left to offer them, they surprise her with their own gifts. Mora's illustrations, made with cut paper, paint, and markers, are some of my favorites. Thank You, Omu is a celebration of community in its truest sense — generous, reciprical, and suffused with warmth.
