Words With Wings and Magic Things should be every child's introduction to poetry. Burgess's poems are funny and playful and Salati's illustrations make the book a magical object unto itself. I gift it most often for 5th and 6th birthdays, but middle schoolers, able to read it on their own, will be enchanted by it as well.
