A Daydreamy Child Takes a Walk

Giovanni has promised his mama to keep his eyes open on his walk, and he means to, but then there is a butterfly, and a puddle, and a particularly interesting crack in the pavement. Legendary children's book writer Gianni Rodari takes the daydreaming child literally, and the result is wonderfully strange and tender. Beatrice Alemagna's collages — photo cutouts, pen-and-ink, and pastel on thick cream-colored paper — are extraordinary.
