Hello Lighthouse

This is the first book by Sophie Blackall that my kids and I ever read, and we fell in love with her work instantly. On the highest rock of a tiny island at the edge of the world stands a lighthouse and inside it, a lighthouse keeper and his family live out their days. Blackall's Caldecott-winning illustrations, painted in Chinese ink and watercolors, are exquisite. The book itself is tall and narrow, like a lighthouse, and the views of the small round rooms allow us to glimpse details of the keeper's daily life and feel we are there, too. I have read it countless times, yet every time, I am still as enamored by the story and the art as I was the first time I read it.
