Orris and Timble

This is a book about unlikely friendship (in this case, between a rat named Orris and an owl named Timble) and the power of stories. Kate DiCamillo does what she does best here: finds something enormous inside something small. Reminiscent of classics like Frog and Toad and told with DiCamillo's characteristic wit and warmth, it's a wonderful early chapter book for ages five and up.
